You have to identify the problem before you can repair your computer.

What is the computer doing or not doing?

You need to determine:

Is it a physical problem?

Is the computer making noise?
Is the computer not booting?
Does the  screen appear to be working?
Are the lights/LEDs working?

Is it an Operating System problem?

Can you see the initial boot up screens?
Does it make it to the logon screen?
Do you get the “blue screen of death”(blue screen with white letters, then reboots)?

Is it a virus or other malware?

Are there pop-up ads even when you are not browsing the internet?
Is your browser redirecting you to sites you were NOT trying to visit?
Do you have pop-ups telling you that your computer is infected and it’s not your known anti-virus software?

Is it a software program problem?

Is the problem only affecting one particular program?

Can you replicate the problem?

This will help you check to see if you have resolved or affected the problem.

Intermittent problems can be some of the hardest to troubleshoot.

Decision Time

Now that you have gathered some information and made some analysis, it’s decision time.

Is the device/software under warranty?

Is this something better left to the professionals at SP Networking?

Do you want to repair the computer yourself?

Warranty:

Does the warranty cover this problem?

Some attempts to repair the problem may void the warranty.

Advanced troubleshooting may be available for free from the manufacturer.

Contact the manufacturer if your product is under warranty and your problem is covered. You can find contact information and warranty procedures for most companies from their website.
